Discussion Question 9. Revising Strategic Plans

How often do you think organizations need to revise their plans? what do you think about the probable changes that may result from such a review?

  1. organizations should revise their strategy continuously(it may be once in 3 months or in 6 months)depending on the nature of the environment in which that specific organization operates. Strategy should be revised to adjust the organization to the changing environment. The out come of the revision is a strategy that will cope the turbulent environment.

  2. Organizations should revise their plan based on their environment. It is a response for the environment. I strongly disagree with the comment of my friend Mr. Minda revising a strategic plan within 6 or 3 months. It is difficult to revise a strategic plan with a shorter period of time; less than a year. If it is an operational plan, it may be revised with a very short period of time, even it can be revised with a gap of hours (a military plan). But, since strategic plan is somewhat similar to a vision of the organization it must take in a longer base. (3 to 5 years).

    1. i disagree with both of you in time specification to revise their plans. as far as the Organizations are continue to exist, it is a must to change its plans to the change in environment. But in my opinion give time specification is meaningless rather responding immediately in revising the plan when the change is just occur.

  4. to my understanding any organization should have to revise their strategic plan always simply to check that weather they plan is going on the right way which enable them to obtain their objective.
as we know planning is not a one time activity always there is a planning. to some extent i a agree with what my class mate seid said but revising strategic plan does not mean changing the first one. rather up dating. so strategic plan revision should have to be made by organization continuously

  5. I disagree with both of you in the case of time specification of the plans has to be revised. Virtually the plans of the organizations fade through the change in time and environment. Therefore, organizations need to revise or adjust their plans with the change in the time and environment immediately as much as possible rather than specifying the time like 3 to 6 months or years.

  6. revising plan is a good strategy for the successful in today's turbulent environment because plan is not one time function continues function and flexible according to the environment but regarding strategic plan it is difficult to revise every quarterly like other plan but some how within one year or two year it will be good if we revise our strategic plan for the organization this also not common in today's most organization but it is help full

  7. The critical issue is to ensure that the strategic plan is updated to major changes occurring in the external environment. But the change has to be a major one that significantly alters basic assumptions underlined in the strategic plan. Generally, such changes happen in somewhat longer time span due to policy changes of the government, enforcement of a regulation that delineates operating frontiers, etc.
